Josh Payne vs Berry van Peer

Josh booked his place in the Last 16 of the Players Championship Finals in Minehead after a terrific 6-4 win over Berry van Peer.

Van Peer took an early lead in the contest after Josh missed two darts to hold throw to make it 1-0, the Dutchman doubled his lead in leg two taking out D9 with Josh waiting on 68.

Josh reduced the deficit to 2-1 after taking out Tops for an 18 darter.

Van Peer made it 3-1 after he hit a maximum to leave D12 which he hit at the first attempt.

And now the comeback began for Josh as he pulled it back to 3-2 eventually taking out D5 with Van Peer waiting on 18.

Payne levelled the contest at 3-3 with a superb leg as he kicked off with a 140 followed by a maximum as he hit D20 for a 13 darter to complete the comeback.

Josh took the lead for the first time in the match as he produced a 16 darter taking out D18 at the first time of asking to lead 4-3.

Van Peer responded to level the match at 4-4 as he had a 16 darter of his own taking out Tops to level.

Josh regained the lead at 5-4 as he hit back-to-back 140’s to leave D16 and he hit D8 to go within one leg of the match at 5-4.

Josh broke Van Peer’s throw again in the tenth leg and sealed the win with a superb 15 darter taking out a tremendous 118 finish on Tops to book his place in the Last 16 on Saturday evening.

Josh will face Michael van Gerwen on Saturday evening which will be on the main stage shown LIVE on ITV4.
